'The Bare
Necessities' is a series of small scale sculptures that can be installed
in a variety of combinations and which take Disney's Mowgli as inspiration.
In 'The Jungle Book' Mowgli
is a feral child raised by animals. We see him journey from the depths of the
jungle before, in the final scenes, joining other humans in 'the
man-village'.
The story is an allegory of human development,
social and individual, and particularly as it relates to other animals.
These works imagine other less linear narratives
in relation to this journey, which include pasties, modernist forms, other
personalities and the recurring figure of the 'bird brother'.
